June 26, 2014 Former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick signed legislation extending the statute of limitations for survivors of child sexual abuse. The legislation expanded the period during which survivors could file civil lawsuits against their alleged abusers. The law allows survivors to file civil claims until the age of 53, a significant increase from the previous limit of 21. It also extends the window for lawsuits based on recovered or repressed memories of childhood abuse from three to seven years.
